This chapter continues our presentation of symbol-based associational networks. We first consider two classic representational techniques, frame theory suggested by Marvin Minsky at MIT and then conceptual graphs proposed by John Sowa at IBM. Frame theory is important in vision, robotics, and other applications. Conceptual graphs are used for human language understanding. We end this chapter and Part V with two modern consequences of these earlier projects: FrameNet from Charles Fillmore’s research at Berkeley and WordNet, from George Miller’s research at Princeton.
