Explicitly representing knowledge continues to be successful when addressing new challenges. This chapter presents two important symbol-based AI applications. First, in ► Sects. 11.1–11.3, we describe planning algorithms and give examples of controlling robots and deep space vehicles. Second, in ► Sects. 11.4–11.5, we demonstrate examples of symbol-based machine learning.
