What Plot Types, Twists and Turns Intrigue Me?

  • Mellie Green

摘要

In Chap. 5 , I outline three lessons developed on Booker’s (2004) Seven Basic Plot Types. The students draw storyboards and consolidate their knowledge and understanding of what they have learned about the stages and phases of narrative structure as well as the different characters and their motives. This new way of thinking about plot types and twists is enhanced through read alouds and group discussion. The conventions of genre provided rich subject matter for this discussion. Dewey’s (1934) work is drawn on to promote book blether as appreciative inquiry. This chapter also promotes self-selected quiet reading time as part of classroom practice. It explores the philosophical and educative nature of “beauty”, making connections to students’ emotional and aesthetic development.
