Exploring the Relationship Between Executive Functioning and DMDD
摘要
This chapter delves into the intricate connection between executive functioning (EF) and disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD). Executive functioning, as defined by Goldstein and Naglieri (Handbook of executive functioning. Springer, 2014), encompasses cognitive processes essential for goal-oriented behavior and cognitive control. DMDD, characterized by persistent irritability, emotional dysregulation, and frequent temper outbursts, presents unique challenges in this context. The chapter critically evaluates how impairments in EF contribute to the onset and symptomatology of DMDD, influencing its clinical presentation. It also investigates how executive dysfunction might affect the management and therapeutic approaches for DMDD, providing insights into effective treatment strategies. This exploration is vital for understanding the complex dynamics between cognitive processing abilities and emotional regulation in children with DMDD.
