Debates and Discourses
摘要
Through the empirical analysis of sociological knowledge produced both within and about Africa, the discipline’s concentration on the study of African societies was evident in the analysis presented in the previous chapters. This chapter probes pertinent issues and ongoing debates that have relevance in contemporary African sociology. Debates centre on themes of decolonisation, indigenisation and the establishment of Africa-centred sociology. Within this chapter, these topics are contextualised and their significance for the future of African sociology and sociological knowledge is discussed. The chapter also addresses the challenges that African sociology must surmount to establish its presence within the broader realm of global sociology and national sociological discourses worldwide.
