Sociology in Africa

  • R. Sooryamoorthy

摘要

This chapter presents the rationale for a scientific exploration of sociology in Africa. It introduces a distinctive and effective approach designed to comprehensively grasp the scope and impact of sociology across different countries on the continent. In comparison to other sociological disciplines worldwide, sociology in Africa remains relatively understudied. While its presence is evident across the continent, it exhibits disparities among the 54 countries. Some countries show a substantial integration of this discipline, whereas others have a notable dearth. Given the heterogeneous nature of African societies, the importance of sociology has undeniable significance. The adopted methodology revolves around analysing scholarly publications from both Africa-based and international scholars, irrespective of their geographic locations and institutional affiliations. This chapter uncovers various dimensions of sociology, thereby illuminating both the historical and contemporary perspectives within the field.
