Ethical Challenges for Intercultural Mediators in Preventing and Remedying Potential Unequal Access to the Public Space
摘要
In an increasingly diverse Europe, interaction between locals and newcomers with varying backgrounds is inevitable, presenting both challenges and opportunities. This chapter emphasizes the importance of equal access to public spaces like justice, information, and services. Recognizing the vulnerabilities of newcomers, it highlights the crucial role of mediation and mediators in facilitating their access. Mediators with cultural awareness and sensitivity can fill in communication gaps and combat prejudices. However, they face ethical challenges in navigating power imbalances and ensuring fair participation. The chapter aims to raise awareness of these obstacles and the potential of mediation, ultimately calling for higher-quality and ethical practices to create harmonious and inclusive society.
