Antiviral Agents: Maribavir

Maribavir is the only FDA-approved agent for refractory/resistant cytomegalovirus (CMV). It was approved 11/2021 after prior trials of lower doses and in prophylaxis settings did not meet primary endpoints. It has a limited spectrum of activity, generally only targeting CMV but no other viruses other than in vitro activity against EBV. Maribavir targets UL97 protein kinase of CMV and is the only approved agent to target this enzyme.
