Antiviral Agents: Letermovir

Letermovir is the only FDA-approved agent for cytomegalovirus (CMV) prophylaxis in hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) patients. It was FDA approved in 2017 for CMV-seropositive HSCT recipients and has become a standard of care. Letermovir targets the CMV-terminase complex, preventing proper packaging of viral DNA and resulting in non-viricidal inhibition of replication. Letermovir is the only agent approved for this molecular target.
