Physical Assessments Instruments
摘要
This chapter aims to describe the most commonly used tools in clinical and research settings to assess physical frailty. Muscle strength assessment is crucial. Handgrip strength can be measured using the Jamar dynamometer, while lower limb strength can be assessed isometrically or dynamically. Physical performances can be evaluated through tests like the 4-m walk or the 6-min walk. Tests such as the sit-to-stand test, the Timed Up and Go test, and the alternate step test are used to assess lower limb muscle function and balance. Postural balance can be subjectively assessed through questionnaires or objectively using force platforms. Two tests, the Short Physical Performance battery and the Tinetti test, are mainly used to assess global functional capacity. It is recommended for clinicians and researchers in geriatric and gerontology fields to routinely assess these physical parameters to identify frailty, track its progression, and evaluate the effects of interventions such as physical activity interventions.
