Edmonton Frail Scale

The Edmonton Frail Scale is a multidimensional frailty measure that has been cross-validated in multiple populations worldwide. Like other frailty measures, the EFS helps front-line clinicians predict adverse outcomes, thereby informing a dialogue with their patients to make patient-centered clinical decisions. What makes the EFS unique is its grounding in comprehensive geriatric assessment, and its potential to support frailty inclusive care. Each of the nine domains can be used to identify systems of vulnerability, identify opportunities for prevention and management, and attenuate the risk profile. These domains, or components of frailty, include cognition, general health status, functional independence, social support, medication use, nutrition, mood, continence, and functional performance.
