Geotechnical Design Case Study of Soil-Structure-Pile Interaction Principles According to TBDY 2018

摘要

Structure-Soil Interaction analysis is one of the most researched topics which is detailed in Turkey's Building Earthquake Code published in 2018 (Turkish Building Earthquake Code in Disaster and Emergency Management, Ankara, Turkey, [1]). The effect of seismic waves propagating in the ground environment on the system is analyzed separately as Inertial Interaction and Kinematic Interaction. The load effects in this system, which includes the interaction of sub-foundation piles, raft foundation, and superstructure, are combined at the last stage and the de-signs are completed. These interactions will be investigated on a Structure-Soil-Pile Interaction Analysis as a case study which is performed with Finite element software Midas GTS NX. The project belongs to Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, DG for EU Affairs and Foreign Relations, Department for EU Investments under the project of “Construction of Çerkezköy-Kapıkule Section of Halkalı-Kapıkule Railway Line Project in Turkiye. Due to variable soft-soil conditions as well as high seismic zone, rail-foundation soil interaction analyses were performed together with inclusion of bored piles. The kinematical analysis is combined with the inertial force effects as per the methodology according to special specification for “Earthquake Design Regulation for Highway and Railway Bridge and Viaduct [2] which is published based on TBDY 2018. Hence, it was found out that soils structure interaction can affect the results significantly and has remarkable importance of bridges located on soft soils. Particular attention should be paid to pile reinforcement designs to evaluate the Moment-Shear effects resulting from Inertial and Kinematic Interaction by combining them correctly.
