Linguistic Policies in Algeria: Historical Landmarks and Sociolinguistic Implications

In the Maghreb, where the linguistic issues often generate political conflicts, scientific work on linguistic policies is becoming a real challenge. The corpora studied are difficult to pin down and the data analyzed require methodological triangulation if it is to be properly described. The present work is also an orientation toward a knowledge construction based on a number of documents and official texts. Only texts related to linguistic problems and governing the coexistence of languages in the Algerian context are used. A methodological tweaking is adopted here to feed the different reflections on the topic and consolidate the advanced arguments.
