Fundamentals of Gabor Wavelet Filter Banks

Gabor wavelets are a family of complex-valued functions that are frequently used in image analysis and signal processing because of their high precision in concurrently capturing both time and frequency information. Gabor wavelets are an effective tool for analysing signals with time-varying frequency content because of their ability to localise in both the time and frequency domains. They are able to maintain good temporal resolution and adjust to signals with different spectral characteristics because of their formulation, which uses a Gaussian window modulated by a sinusoidal oscillation. The capacity of Gabor wavelets to represent signals with both local and global features is one of its main advantages. This makes them especially well-suited for computer vision applications that involve texture analysis, image segmentation, and feature extraction. Moreover, Gabor wavelets are quite flexible, allowing users to modify parameters like scale, orientation, and frequency to customise the analysis to certain signal properties. Due to their adaptability, they have been widely used in a variety of industries, such as pattern identification, speech recognition, and biomedical imaging.
