Genetically Modified Microbes and Their Contribution in the Management of Solid Waste
摘要
In modern times the production of solid waste is increasing significantly due to different human activities and handling that much of waste is a challenging issue. A lot of waste management options like incineration, landfilling, etc., are already available to deal with such waste but at the same time these have more or less interference with the environment. Where the environment is at risk due to the waste accumulation followed by improper handling of the waste, the field demands an alternative way which could be used as sustainable waste management practice. The issue is supported by molecular biology which has made a way-out for the treatment of solid waste with the help of genetically modified microbes. Genetically modified microbes are the organisms produced through genetic engineering with the potential to degrade many kinds of contaminants and are now being used for waste decomposition through enzymatic action providing a better way for waste reduction without causing any harm to the environment.
