In this chapter, we analyse the esports ecosystem, highlighting the central role of Game IP Owners, the influence of government and institutional structures, and the diversity of event organisers. It emphasises the unique dynamics in esports, where Game IP Owners have unparalleled control, unlike traditional sports. The chapter also explores the impact of government regulations and the evolving roles of esports federations and associations. It categorises esports organisers into three primary types: IP owners, commercial operators, and institutional organisers, detailing their functions and challenges. Additionally, we will address the misconceptions about esports held by brands and discuss the evolving landscape of broadcasting and streaming in the industry, including the unique market of China. It concludes by acknowledging the silent masters of esports—entities that influence the sector subtly but significantly—and the vital presence of gamers, communities, and teams at the heart of esports. In Sect. 5.7 we touch upon a crucial element, that may be the game changer for the industry—the gap between esports and competitive gaming.
