Cordon Fences and Wildlife Tourism: Impacts on Wildlife

  • Moren T. Stone

摘要

In many countries in the southern African region like Botswana, cordon fences have been put in place to control diseases and to minimise interactions between wildlife and domesticated animals. The chapter investigates the impacts these fences have on wildlife and tourism, looking at different stakeholders’ perspectives. Using available literature, the chapter joins the debate on the impact of veterinary cordon fences (VCFs) on wildlife resources and wildlife-based tourism by outlining the context, reviewing, and synthesising literature materials. The chapter yielded results which are discussed in the following themes: wildlife resources and veterinary fences relationship dynamics, impact of climate change and cordon fences on wildlife resources dynamics, and the veterinary cordon fences debate. Lastly, implications of veterinary cordon fences on wildlife-based tourism are highlighted.
