Thromboprophylaxis in Fast-Track Surgery: An Update

In every kind of surgery, there is an increased risk of thrombosis due to the impairment of hemostasia that surgery provokes itself. In the case of TKA and THA, some other factors raise this risk for venous thromboembolism (VET), both deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE): major surgery, the use of tourniquet, direct injury to veins around the surgical field; and reduced mobility which appears to be the most important issue.
