Urinary Catheter Protocols and Intravenous Homeostasis Support

摘要

The genitourinary tract is a plausible source of seeding of bacteria into the joint, and there are some reports showing the correlation between periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) and perioperative urinary tract infections (UTIs). Asymptomatic bacteriuria diagnosed by preoperative urinary culture is not the same entity as a symptomatic urinary tract infection. The fact is that a positive screening preoperative urinalysis in an asymptomatic patient should not be considered diagnostic proof that the patient has a UTI. Furthermore, no clear relationship exists between urine abnormalities in asymptomatic patients and an increased risk of PJI.
