How to Define Intelligence

  • Christian Posthoff

摘要

If you look at the concept of intelligence, you quickly realise that there is no clear definition. On the contrary, it is a generic term from which sub-areas can be derived very quickly: emotional intelligence, social intelligence, collective intelligence and many more. We also need to add the concept of competence. In principle, people can do everything, but for a single person this means that they can only master certain areas. Many people can drive a car, but only a few can solve differential equations. So you have to replace the phrase “people can” with “there are some people who can…” Intelligence tests are very popular, but do nothing to help us understand the concept.
