Artificial Intelligence in the Arts

The methods of artificial intelligence were applied to the composition of musical pieces relatively early on. A string quartet called Illiac Suite was performed as early as 1957. Today, there are a whole series of companies that are working on this and also achieving good commercial results. They are not limited to the piano and string instruments, but also use exotic instruments such as marimbas and the Trinidadian steel pan. The field of architecture is being changed in many ways by AI methods. Computer aided design was used very early on to create 2D and 3D models of buildings. The design of air conditioning systems in buildings, the design of lift systems, emergency exits etc. are fully computerised, as is the design of the water system and energy supply.
