Substance Use in Special Populations
摘要
Treating substance use disorders (SUDs) in special populations requires tailored approaches that address the unique challenges and needs of each group. Pregnant individuals with SUDs face heightened risks for both maternal and fetal health, necessitating integrated prenatal care and addiction treatment to ensure the best outcomes for both mother and offspring. Physicians with SUDs encounter additional complexities due to the high-stress nature of their profession and the potential impact on patient safety. Effective interventions for this group often include Physician Health Programs (PHPs) that provide comprehensive treatment, rigorous monitoring, and support for professional reintegration. LGBTQIA+ individuals with SUDs may experience stigma and discrimination, which can exacerbate substance use and hinder access to treatment. Culturally competent care that recognizes and addresses these unique social and psychological factors is essential. Overall, addressing substance use disorders in these special populations requires multifaceted strategies that encompass medical, psychological, and social support to promote sustained recovery and well-being.
