Evolution of Diabetic Foot Reconstruction

Despite the long existence of diabetes and its most dreaded complication, diabetic foot, the treatment for diabetic foot remains difficult. The multiple factors involved, and the wide spectrum of treatment makes it difficult for one surgeon to manage. Nevertheless, with a team approach, plastic surgeons can play a crucial role in managing the diabetic foot. In this chapter, critical studies that have shaped the roles for plastic surgeons and studies that have provided fundamental concepts for reconstruction will be discussed in detail.
