Climate Stewards for the World

This chapter addresses these United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). These SDGs are closely interrelated because changes in the Earth’s climate affect the land, we live in. This chapter will introduce the concept of climate change, its relationship to our natural resources (such as ecosystems, forests, and food production), and how we can become climate stewards to decrease our carbon footprint. The chapter includes five learning activities from five selected children’s books. These learning activities were designed with the hope that parents and teachers can engage with children in a culturally responsive conversation, allowing a safe space to explore children’s views or preconceived ideas on climate action and life on land.
