Introductory Chapter

The book’s premise is that children’s literature is a powerful tool to introduce children to global issues. The book was developed with global relevance and knowledge of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. The book’s themes are aligned with Global Competencies (Boix-Mansilla, & Jackson, A., 2022) and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (UNESCO, 2015). Both frameworks provide a structured approach to incorporating global awareness and understanding from a child’s perspective into various teaching and learning contexts. Quality Education (SDG 4) is integrated into each chapter, not only what all hope for but also what is so important for students of every age to fulfill their promise and be active and responsible citizens in our ever-changing world.
