Evaluation of the Air Quality Index for PM2.5 and PM10 in the Station of the Great Husseiny Park in the Holy City of Karbala

Air pollution is a major environmental concern due to its harmful effects on human health, ecosystems, and the climate. This study investigated the relationship between atmospheric elements and airborne particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) concentrations at the Great Husseiny Park station in Karbala, Iraq. The results showed that atmospheric elements are correlated with changes in PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations. The mean concentration ranges of PM2.5 and PM10 during the study period were 0.004–0.012 µg/m3 and 0.002–0.006 µg/m3, respectively. On the other hand, the air quality index for PM2.5 and PM10 ranged from 0.018 to 0.595 and from 0.001 to 0.168, respectively. These values are good for human health, indicating that trees and plants effectively mitigate air pollution and reduce soil erosion.
