Latin American Counter-Revolution, 1887–1994

In the absence of encyclical reflection upon the affairs of the Catholic Church in Latin America, Royce surveys the dueling meta-narratives of Catholic and Marxist thought that have largely determined the political contestation within and between the concerned comparative regimes. He examines the counter-revolutionary norms of the concordats of the region grounded in two specific instruments of the canon law, but then demonstrates the conceptual significance of the idealistic turn begun by the Latin American bishops at Medellín in 1968.
