Working In-Role

The power of working in-role is a concept explored in this chapter. How playing the role of speaker can be compared to the actor’s work of playing a character is discussed in detail. The freeing nature of this process is discussed and basic structures for how to use this technique are outlined here. Examples of role-play and role-taking are offered from the arts as a demonstration of the concepts of the distance model and projective technique. All are connected to the task of public speaking for the non-actor.
