Relationship to the Audience

Knowing your audience is the first step leading to performance for the public speaker. In this section, performance is discussed as the natural culmination for all the theory and practice explored thus far in the book. Again, preparation is the key and myths about judgment and failure are considered as they are addressed by the speaker’s attention to being prepared. A distinction is also made between sharing a speech rather than presenting one. The concept of sharing is another step towards a confident and authentic performance.
