Play and Games As Tools for Cognitive Stimulation: Possible Interfaces with Neuropsychological Intervention
摘要
The chapter discusses the importance of play and games in child development and how they can be used as tools in neuropsychological rehabilitation. Play is an intrinsically motivated behavior, determined by the child, that allows for new experiences, creation, imagination, and interaction. Interventions that use play as a tool should be carefully planned, taking into consideration the child’s developmental stage and preferences. Children with learning disabilities and cognitive deficits can especially benefit from time dedicated to play, free from external pressures and demands. Play promotes confidence, independence, imagination, and the ability to take risks safely. It is emphasized that play can be a clinical tool in neuropsychological rehabilitation and early stimulation, promoting the development of various skills. However, it is noted that studies on play and its impact on development are becoming increasingly rare in the literature, with more focus on technological games. The chapter highlights the importance of sociodramatic and symbolic games, mediated by interaction with adults, as those most associated with development and learning.
