摘要

The chapter explores the interconnection between movement experiences and cognitive functions, emphasizing the pivotal role of the body, perception, and motor skills in cognition. It delves into the significance of motor activity in fostering executive functions, with a focus on relevant research in children. The chapter presents studies on the correlation between motor skills and cognitive development, as well as interventions aiming to enhance both motor competence and executive functions. Recommendations include implementing physical activity programs, particularly aerobic exercises demanding cognitive effort, as they exhibit the potential to augment school achievement. Consideration of activity intensity is crucial, with evidence suggesting that regular moderate-intensity aerobic exercise may induce positive neurochemical and morphological changes in brain areas associated with executive functioning. The authors propose that health and education professionals incorporate strategies promoting executive function development in children through daily practices, fostering a comprehensive understanding of interdependent processes and developmental outcomes. While existing evidence is promising, further research is essential to solidify knowledge and fortify effective intervention proposals. Collaboration among researchers, teachers, and school administrators is imperative for implementing practices that holistically nurture children’s development.
