Detecting and Shielding Neutrons with a Geiger Counter
摘要
Neutron detection with Geiger counters, although not straightforward, is in principle possible using special Geiger tubes with boron content. In this activity a test measurement was carried out instead with a standard Geiger detector, employing some material (water or borated polyethylene) placed above the detector, with absorption properties against fast neutrons, to compare the response of the Geiger in standard conditions and when using such material.
