Setting up a Micro-Array for Air Showers with Geiger Counters

A large number of individual detectors, with a proper geometrical configuration, may be employed for the detection of extensive air showers. The probability to detect multiple coincidences between individual detectors increases rapidly with the number of available detectors. This strategy is discussed by general combinatorial considerations and was employed in the present activity with a set of ten Geiger counters, arranged in a hexagonal geometry, to mimic the geometry typical of large arrays employed in cosmic ray physics.
