Coincidence (AND) Measurements with Geiger Counters

  • Francesco Riggi

摘要

Coincidence experiments, where two or more individual detectors are simultaneously interested in a physics event, opened the way about a century ago to new possibilities in nuclear and cosmic ray physics. The basics of this technique is here discussed, with special emphasis to the use of Geiger counters, which are extensively employed in this book even in coincidence mode. The role of random (spurious) coincidences when performing a coincidence experiment is also outlined, together with the strategy to evaluate and correct the observed events for such effect.
