Atmospheric Pressure and the Cosmic Ray Flux Measured by Geiger Counters

  • Francesco Riggi

摘要

The cosmic ray flux measured at ground level is influenced by the Earth atmospheric conditions. The atmospheric pressure, in particular, plays an important role, because of the various physical processes taking place during the development of extensive air showers. As a result, periodic and aperiodic variations in the atmospheric pressure are (anti)correlated with the cosmic ray flux of the various secondary components. Precision measurements of such effects may be investigated even by means of simple Geiger counters.
