Detecting the Cosmic Radiation at Balloon and Airplane Altitudes

High-altitude measurements of the cosmic ray flux in the atmosphere, either using balloons or airplanes, provided in the past a powerful tool for understanding the nature of the primary and secondary cosmic ray components. Amateur experiments over the last decades have also exploited such possibilities, designing a variety of experiments which may also be carried out with Geiger counters.
