Measuring the Count Rate in Different Floors of a Building

  • Francesco Riggi

摘要

The radiation dose due to cosmic and environmental radiations in different places of a building may be investigated by means of a simple Geiger counter. In a tall building, although the concrete layers separating the different floors provide some degree of shielding from the cosmic radiation, most of the inclined particles from the cosmic radiation arrive to the counter, unless the horizontal size of the building is very large in comparison to its height. Positioning a Geiger counter in different locations inside a building may provide useful experimental activities to check the dose distribution.
