Statistical Distribution of Measurements from a Geiger Counter

Simple statistical analyses of the data collected with a Geiger counter are discussed in this activity. Examples of histograms of the experimental distribution of measurements are presented and discussed, together with the main parameters which describe them. The significance of statistical fluctuations in a series of measurements performed with a Geiger counter is discussed, with special emphasis on the average values which may be extracted by long lasting data collection.
