UV Light Curable Piezoelectric 0-3 Composites with Different Piezoceramics

This chapter provides insights into how different piezoceramic materials, particle sizes, and particle geometries influence UV light curable composite manufacturability and dielectric properties. Three types of piezoceramic particles are dispersed up to 30 vol.% using solvent and ultrasonic cavitation, achieving high dispersion quality as observed from the microstructure. The resulting suspension viscosities and curing depths are determined, indicating increasing viscosity and decreasing curing depth with increasing piezoceramic concentration, as reported in the literature, suggesting that bigger piezoceramic particles are advantageous for UV light curable composites. A piezoelectric composite manufacturing method using tape casting in thin molds enables achieving sensor thickness >100  \(\upmu \) m. Measurements of dielectric properties reveal a relatively high values achieved with KNN composites, supporting a few other studies.
