Piezoelectricity and Piezoelectric Materials

This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of piezoelectric composite materials, offering valuable insights for researchers, engineers, and scientists working on advanced materials. The basics of the piezoelectricity effect are presented, also covering existing piezoelectric materials and the need for piezoelectric composite sensors. Focusing on piezoelectric 0–3 composites, made of piezoceramic particles dispersed in the polymer, parameters influencing performance are investigated: piezoceramic concentration, particle size/geometry, type of piezoceramic and polymer. Furthermore, possible methods to increase piezoelectric performance are presented.
