Phenomenological Psychiatry of Schizophrenia

This chapter provides an indirect approach to the problems of the minimal self and self-affection. The chapter examines the disintegration process of the minimal self in schizophrenia. Recently, considerable work has been directed at the ipseity-disturbance model of schizophrenia, which facilitated a thought-provoking dialogue between clinical neuroscience and phenomenologically inspired psychiatry. The main purpose of the following investigations is to draw attention to the intricacies of self-disorders, which may indirectly shed some new light on the nature of the minimal self. Body memory and the horizontal unconscious, discussed in the previous chapters, have explanatory value in understanding the nature and phases of self-disorder. The examination of the disturbances of the minimal self also brings us closer to the account of self-affection and the affective core self.
