New Zealand is striving to reduce its carbon footprint and mitigate the impacts of climate change by transitioning to zero-carbon building practices. The construction sector is a primary contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, so it plays a significant role in this transition. This article presents a research approach based on a comprehensive literature review of published works aimed at identifying the most common zero-carbon building materials in New Zealand. The literature review encompasses academic research outputs, government publications, and industry reports related to sustainable building materials in New Zealand, providing insights into the current state of zero-carbon building materials, including their availability, affordability, and performance. The study’s outcomes offer a comprehensive overview of the benefits and limitations of zero-carbon building materials in New Zealand, facilitating their adoption. The findings from this study contribute to the knowledge base on zero-carbon building materials in New Zealand and offer valuable insights for policymakers, construction companies, and researchers.
