Algorithm for Optimization of Biomimick Vortex Generator—Airfoil Parameters

This paper proposed an algorithm or set of rules as guidance in the development of a biomimicry vortex generator for enhancement of airfoil performance. A biomimicry vortex generator is developed based on the features found in living organisms. An airfoil with higher performance increases the efficiency of engineering devices. For instance, the biomimicry vortex generator can be utilized in the production of a wind turbine with higher power coefficient or aircraft wing with higher lift-to-drag ratio. Thus, the objective of this paper is to develop an algorithm or set of rules for the development of a biomimicry vortex generator for airfoil. A complete cycle of development from the selection of organism, extraction of features from the selected organism, optimization of parameters for the combined vortex generator and airfoils and evaluation of the performance through simulation or experiment are included in the proposed algorithm. This algorithm is expected to contribute to a more systematic approach in development of engineering devices based on the biomimicry approach.
