Exploring the Impact of a 5E-Flipped Learning Environment on Students’ Learning Motivation: A Case Study of Medical Assistant Education

This case study aims to investigate the effectiveness of information-intelligent strategies in enhancing learning motivation in a 5E-flipped learning environment (5EFLE) for medical assistant education. Fifty undergraduate students participated in a 7-week prehospital trauma care course that was designed using the 5EFLE model. Data were collected through learning diaries, focus group discussions, and individual interviews. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. The findings showed that the 5EFLE, when implemented with information-intelligent strategies, had a positive impact on students’ learning motivation. The students perceived the flexibility of this approach to be valuable and appreciated the instructional approach and emotional strategies used in the 5EFLE. The information-intelligent strategies that were employed, such as the use of multimedia resources, real-world scenarios, and peer collaboration, were perceived as effective in promoting engagement and active learning. Furthermore, the integration of technology, such as the use of an online platform, was perceived as an innovative way to enhance learning experiences and promote self-directed learning. The results of this study contribute to the literature on the effectiveness of information-intelligent strategies in enhancing learning motivation in a 5EFLE for medical assistant education. These findings suggest that the use of information-intelligent strategies can provide a more engaging and effective learning environment, which can positively influence students’ motivation to learn. This study also highlights the importance of using a constructivist-based instructional approach that integrates technology and provides opportunities for peer collaboration and self-directed learning. Overall, this study provides evidence to support the use of information-intelligent strategies in enhancing learning motivation in a 5EFLE for medical assistant education. The findings suggest that the use of these strategies can provide a more engaging and effective learning environment, which can positively influence students’ motivation to learn. These results have important implications for educators and instructional designers who are interested in enhancing the quality of learning experiences in technology-mediated environments.
