Possibilities and Limitations of Total Ankle Arthroplasty

In the last two decades, total ankle arthroplasty has merged as a viable alternative to ankle fusion for the treatment of end-stage osteoarthritis. With increasing experience, the indications were enlarged, especially in using the replacement surgery as a part of hindfoot reconstruction. The limits still need to be defined, however.
