Prospects for International Economic Cooperation Between Russia and China in the Interests of the Development of the Arctic Region

The authors of the paper took into account the importance of studies on Arctic development and exploration carried out by Russian and foreign scientists, including those from SPbPU. The Arctic is a region with unique natural, climatic, geographical, economic, cultural and historical features, where the richest reserves of natural resources are concentrated. The authors indicate the particular relevance of issues of economic interaction between Russia and China in the field of development of Arctic fields, construction of industrial and transport infrastructure. Russia and China are important strategic partners. China’s polar interests are determined by economic, geopolitical and scientific research objectives related to ensuring the country’s energy security and economic growth. Russia is interested in attracting the investment and technological potential of China in the development of Arctic territories. It is concluded that the basis for effective interaction between Russia and China in the development of the Arctic are the principles of mutually beneficial cooperation, energy security, and improvement of the national well-being of the participating countries. The purpose of the research in this article is to substantiate the prospects for international economic cooperation between Russia and China in the development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation.
