A Proposal for the Processing of the Nucleus Verb Phrase of Pronominal (SVNPr) Verbs in Spanish

The Centro de Estudios de Tecnología Educativa y Herramientas Informáticas de Procesamiento del Lenguaje (CETEHIPL) focuses on the pedagogical application of the NooJ tool created by Silberztein [1]. In this line of work and based on our Spanish Module Argentina, available on the NooJ platform [2], we have been addressing the formalization of lexical categories such as the adjective and the adverb. We will now go further into the processing of the verb, a complex lexical category that is a central element of the sentence. When dealing with the verb in Spanish, it is essential to include clitics since they always and only occur in construction with it. Following Bès [3], we will describe pronominal (SVNPr) verbs in Spanish. According to our usual methodology, a corpus of authentic texts written in Rioplatense Spanish was created. Specifically, in this case, a corpus of popular songs allowed us to account for the current use of pronominal verbs, as well as their distinctive particularities. For the sake of formalization, we introduced changes in the morphological grammar and the dictionary of the Spanish Module Argentina, and developed a syntactic grammar to recognize nucleus pronominal verb phrases (SVNPr). This syntactic grammar will be defined in contrast with nucleus transitive verb phrases (SVNTr) since the comparison between transitive and pronominal verbs is one of the most emblematic.
