Role of Nanotechnology in the Remediation of Heavy Metals
摘要
When it comes to monitoring the quality of drinking water on a worldwide scale, heavy metal contamination is the most pressing worry. Water quality and human health are gravely threatened by the extensive pollution of heavy metals. Because it is poisonous, bioaccumulates, and does not biodegrade, drinking this polluted water can have devastating effects on communities and individuals. Decontamination procedures that are both quick and energy efficient are necessary to solve the problem. Optoelectronics, chemistry, device storage, physics, medicine, biology, and environmental restoration are just a few of the many fields that can benefit from nanotechnology, which is a fast expanding field. Among nanotechnology's numerous uses, the employment of nanoparticles to clean up polluted environments may stand out. An area of growing interest in the application of nanotechnology is the study of nanoparticles as a heavy metal adsorbent for use in water purification systems. The unique potential of nanoparticle-based remediation to decrease the need for treatment and disposal of polluted water by eliminating or converting organic or inorganic pollutants into harmless forms, as well as the high surface area that these materials offer in a very small volume, led to their selection. Because of their improved and synergistic activity, BNPs have recently been utilised as an additional layer of protection against heavy metal contamination in different kinds of nanoparticles. Because of their bigger surface area, bimetallic nanoparticles are more capable of adsorption than their monometallic equivalent.
