Heavy Metal Toxicity and Their Effects on Environment

To better understand the effects of heavy metal toxicity on the local flora and fauna and how these metals affect their health and the ecosystem, this article will analyze relevant literature. The use of heavy metals to pollute the environment has grown significantly in the last several decades. Since heavy metals are now more common in nature and can bioaccumulate and biomagnify in the appropriate food chain due to increased urbanization and industrial growth, exposure to these metals appears to be normal in the modern era. Many heavy metals that interact with the biotic ecosystem, like mercury, lead, cadmium, chromium, copper, zinc, and so forth, can cause major health problems, oxidative stress, and molecular abnormalities like DNA damage, lipid peroxidation, protein modification, cellular damage, apoptosis, and interference with electrolyte channels. Free radicals are produced by heavy metals and have a variety of negative effects on an organism's ability to perform its normal metabolic activities. We have outlined the harmful consequences of heavy metals on the environment in this article, which eventually have an impact on human health.
