This chapter considers the state of environmental and nature writing in Australia by proffering a lens onto thematic change in long-form journalism on extreme weather. Women lead the way there, by providing a direct response to climate crisis and the deficits of daily journalism that is both personal and distinctively Australian. The chapter’s main questions might be formulated as follows: How well has objectivity served journalism in this era of climate catastrophe and how have women met the challenge of writing convincingly about this crisis in Australia by bearing witness to distinct moments of disaster experience?
